Orson Blake

Here's a band that's particularly dear to my heart, a bunch of lads called Orson Blake. They've been in existence on and off for some time now, their origins going all the way back to the late seventies. Norbert got me into them through the video / drama club that we had going at school in Tooting. At the time, Norbert decided to use a piece of music by the band called "Microfilm" to play during the closing credits of this drama club video thing that we did. "Microfilm" is best described as a spy-film type of theme tune which would've been suitable for one of those sixties dagger-vs-dagger telly shows. Parsley the organist used to use a Farfisa Compact Duo (the Rick Wright model) to good affect and it became very much part of the band's sonic identity.

Over twenty five years later, Terry (the main songwriter of the band) is writing new stuff, and together with the rest of the band they are doing the odd gig around the capital (next gig: The Woodman, Joel Street, Eastcote, Middlesex, London on Saturday 15th December 2007 supporting fellow 'Not So Famous' band The Attendants for the first time in 27 years. Entry is free). Here's the blurb from their webspace:

Orson Blake (not to be confused with any other Orsons, unless you like surprises!) are a 4-piece alternative combo formed in the late seventies in West London. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Terry Hassett has been creating pop tunes with a twist like a spiked cocktail for three decades. Now he presents his latest quirky musings on love and life with backing from this seminal line-up that also features Andy Godleman a.k.a. Parsley the Lion on organ, Andy Wood on bass, and Graham Brown on drums.

As a loyal supporter, I'd be shirking my duties if I weren't to give 'em a plug. They've made a promo video for their new song. Enjoy.
