Ours looks similar... biggest issue is we live on a hill, not a big one but enough that you back off the drive then gravity has you going sideways down the hill towards parked cars, shoppers and the main road with very little you can do but pray!
Furtheron - We too live on a hill and it was treacherously icy at the top until a friendly neighbour layed the grit down.
Betty - Sod everything, I'll stay in bed.
Joanne - You'll only have the stocktake waiting for you to do on your return. We were informed on our local news channel that some bloke walked 18 miles to get into work. Keen or stupid? You decide.
MoMad - The difference is that unlike the UK, Finland doesn't grind to a halt during these conditions.
I am 2 roads away from the main road and the estate road and this cul-de-sac aren't gritted. My little road was impassible except to 4WDs because of the incline to the junction - it was sheet ice. When I managed to get out on Tuesday afternoon to get food and fuel, I kept skidding.
Did your neighbour know that he became legally liable for any injuries on the stretch of road he gritted? When you grit or clear a public road or pavement you accept responsibility for any accidents on that stretch.
This morning I was towed up our lane by a tractor, then chootled along for about 5 miles til I got to the gritted roads, then another 10 miles to work. A piece of piss for a tough country girl like me ;-)
I too live on a slight hill, I parked at the top for a better drive to work but after opening the curtains thought bollocks to that and got back in bed !

"Sod the car, it looks as if I'll have to walk."
Here's hoping it reaches us by tomorrow morning so I don't have to endure 2 days of stocktake.

Llewtrah - Cheers for making me legally aware - I shall stay away from those grit bins.
Joanne - A piece of frozen piss judging by current temperatures.
;-P
Palace Fan - Oo-er. Best to avoid motor vehicles in these conditions, I think.
