The following is the transcript of an actual radio conversation in October 1995, between a US Navy ship off the coast of England, and the British authorities. The transcript was released by the MoD on 10/10/95.
BRITS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision.
BRITS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
AMERICANS: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
BRITS: Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.
AMERICANS: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET. THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS ACCOMPANY US. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
BRITS: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

I soooooo DO NOT eat earwax!
Just snot right?
I wonder what happened next? I presume the Americans blew the lighthouse to kingdom come, true to form.
I know what happened next.
Captain Simpson said: "Doh".
we are idiots, yes, we know that ;-)
RoMo - You couldn't make it up.
DH - I've eaten snails and crab & sweetcorn soup, and that's as snotty as it gets.
Betty - As Howesy said, it was a "Doh" moment.
Howesy - When are you serving up some porn for us? C'mon, chop-chop!
It's no good that you can only average it once a month. Fnarr-fnarr.
Savvy - Nah, you're not all idiots over in the "two-and-eights". It's just the folk who run your vast landmass that you live on.
But hey, you knew that already right? If "CON" is the opposite of "PRO", what is the opposite of PROGRESS?
you're clever, sugar, very clever! ;-)
I've heard this attributed to various other naval vessels and lighthouses. I've also heard it touted as a spoof recording. I'm waiting for the original - a Roman trireme hailing the Colossus of Rhodes.
