Slipknot 2 - Anvil 0

Let's face it; it was never going to be much of a competition between the two bands. Slipknot simply had to be the winners, dahling. To find out why and to hear what else was hot or not at this year's Donington festival, you can CLICK HERE to download the Download @ Donington depcast which was recorded with my mate Stu on the festival site last Monday (in the massive south car park, actually).
Pictures of the atmosphere can be found here.
Have a great weekend folks, we certainly did!

I don't get it. You go all the way to Donnington to a metal festival and then play nothing but soft melodic rock? Journey??? Other than that I thought it was a great 'live' depcast and I love the thought of you doing more from the summer festis that you attend etc. The great outdoors is the way to go. Nothing is noisier than my back graden!!!

Ha - look at you two. I am carting myself of to Guilfest for a blast of Motorhead next month. Might even take the minibeast. Going off to listen now to your no doubt fab depcast now. Glad the Stuester looks in fine fettle x

Savvy - You'll have to ask the MITM to sort out your horny needs when it comes to leather and helmets I'm afraid.
;-P

Piley - I did a brief Richard Cheese post about a year ago with a Mixwit cassette embedded into it (no longer working). I've heard his spiffing version of People = Shit and how about his rendition of Slayer's War Ensemble, eh? We need more Cheese!

MJ - What makes you think that those are my underpants? I'm not that slovenly. As for Stuart on the other hand...

Furtheron - Sonisphere is tempting, isn't it? I've been to a couple of Metallica gigs and not had the best of times - 3 hour shows filled with drum solos, guitar solos, bass solos, gawd 'elp us. But Sonisphere? I dunno, I like Anthrax, Thin Lizzy, Machine Head, Alice In Chains...but to sit or even stand through another Metallica gig..? I'm getting uber-fussy in my old age.

Col - Good point. Perhaps I've underestimated my podcast audience in terms of not punting the heavier stuff, although I've slipped in some vicious hardcore thrash in some of the earlier Depcasts.
I guess I chose those tracks to try and help explain the change in the nature of the Donington festival. It's no longer a one day, one stage affair. Although it still caters mainly for the rock crowd, bands like Friday's main stage headliners Faith No More aren't technically metal and the same can be said about Saturday's second stage headliners The Prodigy. ZZ Top are blues, not metal. As for White Man Kamikaze...well, you get the picture.
So (if you have the stomach for it), here are links to:
Five Finger Death Punch
Dragonforce (perhaps the most traditional sounding 'metallers' of the bunch)
Down
Slipknot
I could go on, but what classifies as metal these days is a lot more varied than what it used to be when I first went to Donington in '92. Is Sonisphere the new 2 day Donington?

PM - That Kiss DVD looks a winner. I always thought that they were responsible for "Denim & Leather" until I discovered Saxon.

Kaz - Not me, Kaz. I'm the one in the straw hat wondering where moi village has got to.

RoMo - The Stuester raved non-stop to Def Leppard, Journey, Pussycat Dolls, Sugababes, Cheap Trick...you name it.

Actually I just made that last bit up.
Good luck at Guilfest, it's a lovely, if slightly tame fessie - I hope Motorhead will put a stop to all that and rip it up a bit. We went there one year when they had The Damned, The Stranglers and Blondie all on the same bill on the same day. Marvellous.
