MICK O'ROURKE PRESENTS
It's a mini-album. Or a long EP. Mick prefers to call it a suite. It's anything you want it to be because it's free to download - which might make it disposable. Some call it folk, others might not. I do know this; it's available to you right now in all its 320kbps gory glory. The artwork is above (that's all you're getting - no front and back labels for CD burning - make your own) so download these scrummy audio vignettes to your mp3 player for your listening pleasure at your leisure. Forward your insults / complaints / gushing mumbles into the comments section.
1.Forest 2. Gathering 3. Hoofprints 4. Dorcas 1 5. Choir 1
6. Dorcas 2 7. Choir 2 8. Warning 9. Pan Has Gone

I have enough hippy stuff on a daily basis...
This being the spot in Canada where old hippies go to die.
Yesterday we were treated to a zither performance on public transit by an old hippy.
Zither?!?
Damn! I knew I forgot to put that in the mix.
I was too busy getting carried away by the Stylophone!
And don't get me started on the pan pipes players at the public market.
Thank ist, I'll drop back tomorrow some time and download/have a listen.
Thanks again man.
Will listen in a bit - need a coffee first. Are you having to have a lie down after doing all that?! PS. have I been relegated to bogroll as opposed to blogroll? ;-) x
MJ - I hope you helped the player dispose of those pipes in a civilised way after the recital?
MoMad - In your own time, squire.
Romo - I've had problems with that link list ever since I upgraded to the version 2 template. It was showing Gerry Hayes' blog as not being updated in ages when he had updated. Other bloggers were missing from my old list aswell as yours so I've deleted it for now 'til I find a reliable blogroll widget. I saw the one on your blog and found that to be broken too - Swipe's link is dated, no links displayed for Howesy and Axe Victim and Jif's not indulged with Blogger for ages.
Modern tech is shite, isn't it? x
Just about to have a listen. Can't wait.
I was surprised. Pleasantly I think. That bloke on the coconut shells is amazing.
Yes I loved this for all the right reasons! It brims with hippy trippy charm and oozes mellow vibes. It's great fun. I heartily recomend popping over to Rock Til You Drop .com and lookign up Rig Records and getting it released through them. It's right up their street. As indeed it might well be perfect for Stone Island Records. They are well into this sort of thing. I liked 'Pan Has Gone' the best. It encompases everything that I look for in a concept album. Do give Mick a big thumbs up from me. It was obviously a labour of love and it shows. Nice one to you too mate.
Oh mine's just operator error (laziness) - tried to update recently but 'Bogrolling' gone bust so not working anymore. Might have to investigate. I keep Bob and Jif's links in the vain hope that they may return one day! Was going to vacate to wordpress earlier this year but too scared in case it all went blank... x
I love but it also scares me, especially Choir 1.
one of the coconut krewe called me an aging hippy the other day...and i answered with whatever, man, it's cool :~D xoxoxox
Good stuff for whilst working... all a bit folky and progy and very 70s... just up my alley :-)
so if this was a foody review you'd get that bollox about "hint of apples with a rush of green tea over the top...."
anyway in summary..
Jethro Tull mixed with Pentangle, hint of Curved Air?, after taste of early Floyd
DH - Cheers, Dick. The only other thing that is safe in the hands of the coconut shell player is sponge. He's not allowed anything sharp.
Col - Glad you liked it, mate. I see what you mean about plugging it to record labels but what's the point? Will Stone Island do any promotion for it? It's not like there's a lot of commercial potential for this project with the current musical climate. If Paul McCartney and Prince are willing to give their albums away in a Sunday newspaper then what chance have we got of selling this stuff? We've done this just for a laugh and I'm also quite proud that we haven't used a professional recording studio (ok, so it shows), a professional record company and professional distribution label. Give us a portastudio, a laptop, the internet and we'll be laughing all the way to Hobbycraft.
RoMo - You can always tell wether a recession is severe when blogroll widgets go bust.
Joanne - If you think "Choir 1" is scary, wait 'til you hear the acapella version of "Warning".
Savvy - Coconut Krewe?!? I've heard of a crew cut, but who the hell are they? xx
Furtheron - That's quite a fair summarisation of influences. Defianately Jethro Tull and Syd-era Pink Floyd. Mick really enjoys The Stones, The Byrds and Bob Dylan. He's a big fan of Keith Harris and Orville too.
So I'm enjoying a refreshing beverage at a sidewalk cafe on the weekend when along comes an old hippy busker and sets up shop near my table.
He starts strumming on his guitar and singing "Teach Your Children Well" or whatever that Crosby, Stills, Nash etc song is called.
A perfectly nice day ruined.
Isti, that one truly is the sound of Satan.
The other one scared me more though :-)
this is actually alright!! Damn, was in Glastonbury only 3 or 4 weeks ago, this woulda been ideal on the 'ol Pod!
P
MJ - You're not having much luck with those Canadian hippies, are you?
Joanne - Hmm, I'll have to work on the Doom Metal remix.
Piley - Cheers. Colin reckons it's great Druid fodder.
