Caught in The Courthouse

It's not often that I have to go to Dartford. Which is just as well as last time I went there I got totally lost circumnavigating the one-way system, unable to find the exact location of the wedding reception that we were invited to. However, this time with the help of Streetmap.co.uk, I was able to locate with precise precision (?) the venue that was playing host to the fabulous Booze Brothers Band. This prime slab of a covers combo (nowt to do with The Blues Brothers of Belushi and Akroyd fame) featured Stu on vocals and guitar (sorry 'bout missing your wedding reception, mate), powerhouse drummer Mikey bashing fuck out of a very tasty Tama kit, Graham on electric ivories and Alexei Sayle on bass (see pic above).

Let's face it. When it comes to watching a band go through a selection of song standards from the past forty years or so, they either triumph or fall flat on their faces. These guys triumphed so much that their next gig is in fact "Triumph" related:

TMOC Summer Rally, Old Elthamians, Chislehurst, Saturday 21st July 2007 8pm (ish) - bring yer own tent.

Back to the gig in Dartford. A careful selection of song material proved to be a winner with a crowd that was made up of locals, friends and groupies (well, wives and girlfriends otherwise known as "The Boozettes"). These guys simply don't just knock out versions of songs that are note / feel perfect to the originals, but they put their own twist on them. Quite what that is, I'm still trying to decide. Whatever it was, I can say it was rather enjoyable.

They played "Heroes" by David 'Buie in a way which I'm sure would've been Swipe-endorsed, "Comfortably Numb" which was Istvanski-endorsed, "Hungry Like The Wolf" which was Emma-endorsed (but, alas, by no-one else...) and Who favourite "Won't Get Fooled Again" which seemed to be endorsed by every fucker in the pub.

Top night it was. I'd also like to thank Stu's brother Steve for plying me with the odd drink. Perhaps it was thanks to him that I ended up heading towards Dover along the M2 after the gig...

... or should that just be "Dartford can be a bastard unless you're a local"? I'm surprised to find out that anything goes on there after sunset, once the roads have cleared of all the traffic coming back from Bluewater.

Er...I hope you weren't doing a bit of D&D were you Ister?

Betty - We'll settle on Dartford being a bastard. Traffic that heads back from Yo! Sushi.

RoMo - Did I mention alcoholic drinks? You know how sugary based pop type drinks affects my migraines. What if I'd had my lisence withdrawn for D&D - how would I get to work then? In fact, they'd sack me if they found out if I was done for D&D. Furthermore, Sarf West Trains upholds a policy of random drink / drug tests in the work place. Which I personally think is a good thing.
So my little Romosterino, you'll be pleased to hear that I live a relatively sober and boring lifestyle.

The only thing I'm addicted to is guitars. Howesy and Photon are formulating a ten-step program to try and ween me off this addiction as I type.
