Surely there must be more to life than downloading recorded telly programs from the Toppy and then burning them on to DVD for archiving? It takes bloody ages, it does.

However, relief did come (steady now...) through the post (nowt to do with Howesy) in the form of Hawkwind's PXR5 CD that I ordered from the States a week ago. It has loads of bonus tracks by some bloke who claims to have been in the studio with Dave Brock and Co at the same time that the session in question was recorded. Hmmm.... As for PXR5, well, there seems to be a few live tracks from DeMontford hall in amongst the song line up (on a track called "High Rise"). I don't remember listening to this when I bought the original album on cassette. What the frig is going on? I suppose I'll have to tune in to a Hawkwind fans forum to find out. More bollocks to wade through.

But I also got a DVD that I recently ordered from Cherry Red Records. Entitled "Destiny Always Calls Twice" by The Monochrome Set, it's a DVD that promises interesting viewing for Mset conno-sewers (copyright Mollster). Part of this program was originally released on VHS and Laser-disc (shows how old this band is) and it's now finally on DVD! Remember folks, this is a band whose nucleus used to be Adam and the Ants back in '78. There's a lot of art school history linkage in the Monochrome-sters, but their songs delivered humour, mangled with prime rhythm and memorable melodies that tickled your big toe into a beat tapping submission. Their instrumentals were the best I'd ever heard and I've been listening to them since the very early 1980s, when I first hungrily took in the noise of the searing sawtooth Wasp synthesizer that Lester Square used on "Love Zombies". I wanted to record a tribute album featuring their songs, but apart from one other person, no other bugger had the passion or good taste to contribute to it. They really are a band that was way ahead of their time. Cultered, they were. Click on the above pic for more blurb (for it is them, 'Van ver man' nowhere to be seen, arf-arf!).

I also saw loads of film crew (you know, middle-aged media-type men with long grey hair in leather jackets and ill fitting jeans) in and around Waterloo station concourse today. I don't know what they were filming (they weren't from any news station / program) and I haven't seen anything about it on the telly. Maybe it's the making of another one of those British romantic comedies. Nah, Hugh Grant was nowhere to be seen. Sod it, couldn't be bothered to ask any of 'ver film crew'.

Damn this cold spell, it's giving me frostbite on my fingers 'cos the central heating's up the swanee. At least we've got hot running water. You've got to be greatful for the little luxuries in life, haven't you?

Frost bite ONLY ON YOUR FINGERRRRRRRRRRRs?
oh yes, Monochrome Set, great band, respect is due Istvanski. I saw them at the Welly Club in Hull; big crowd, the Set had no lights on them, but just played while we danced like the Love Zombies we were...
Oh dear - film crew get everywhere don't they? Those men with grey hair and high-waister jeans were probably the electrical or grips department - they all look like that. Sounds like they were shooting a drama.
I like the idea of you sitting there listening to Hawkwind. I do love a bit of Hawkwind. I'm going to get you with my needle-gun. Get over to YouTube to see Silver Machine.
You can't beat a bit of Hawkwind, especially if you have frostbite.
Chazza - Luckily, yes.
Stray - Nice to see that the Mset were brave enough to visit Hull, I'm well envious that you got to see them live. As a band, I think they did the best instrumentals. Rumour has it that Bid used to play for Tooting & Mitcham FC...as someone who was born and brought up in Tooting myself, that makes me feel very proud.
RoMo - I suspect they were shooting a drama, too much fuss equipment-wise for yer run o' the mill news programme.
Molly - I was lucky enough to see Lemmy guesting with Hawkwind for "Silver Machine" a few years ago. Had we been 5 minutes late arriving at Wembley, we would've missed it totally. Has your needle-gun been sterilised?
It wasn't a drama - it was a very big film apparently but I've forgotten which one - someone told me today but I've forgotten already.
