It was Peter Taylor's first stint at managing The Eagles on home turf, and he is showing promising signs of good tactics for a friendly match. At first I thought the difference in class with regards to Boavista's style of play would've been too much for our boys from Selhurst Park. They may have looked better on paper (they are in Portugal's premier league, and they aint floating at the bottom of the table either!), but we showed more heart.
New recruit Mark Kennedy scored with a blinder of a strike in the first half. Unfortunately, Fary Faye (that's his name, I kid you not) scored for the opposition in the opening minute of the second half, thereby giving new No1 goalkeeper Scot Flinders an embarrassing start at home. However, we didn't give up the ghost, we hung on to possession as best we could until Jon Macken "miraculously" headed in our second goal (who said he was useless and would never score?).
I'm glad he did, as this would've ended up a penalty shoot-out if the match were to have ended in a draw. Which in itself is unusual for a friendly match, were it not for recreating that England v Portugal tension that we all suffered recently.
Welcome back, Tayls...
